Cover of the Day: Reality Ends Here

Reality Ends Here by Alison Gaylin

I took a dark room photography class in college and developing the contact sheet was always my favorite. Waiting and watching to see if all the pictures had come out as envisioned. I LOVE that this cover looks like a photographers contact sheet! My only wish is that the images weren't all the same, but I still like it nonetheless. The typography however, I'm not a fan of.

Cover of the Day: Being Sloan Jacobs

Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren Morrill

I love that this cover has the same "feel" as Lauren's first book. They both have bright colors, fun fonts, city skylines, and couples embracing. I'm sure the story will be just as awesome too! =)

Cover of the Day: The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

First off I want to say sorry for skipping my post last Friday. I went to New York for Book Expo America and forgot to schedule a post. My bad =(

This week I decided to choose a cover that I saw while at BEA. I picked The 5th Wave, because I've loved the cover ever since I first saw it about a month ago. The strong contrast between yellow and black, the silhouette of the girl/boy? walking out of the trees and into the light. This will probably seem silly but I even like how the TH is inside of the 5 instead of out, it all just works so well.

Cover of the Day: The Sound

The Sound by Sarah Alderson

This cover and I had a love at first sight kind of relationship. I was instantly drawn in by the colors, the teal and pink work gorgeous together! I also really like the transparency that's going on, letting us see the ocean through the girl and fading her out completely in the bottom third of the cover.

Cover of the Day: Gated

Gated by Amy Christine Parker

Okay so I'm not in love with this cover but it did grab my attention right off the bat. Her brilliant blue eye surrounded by such dark muted colors really gets ya, I feel like she's looking right at me. I'm not sure how I feel about the title being repeated over and over, it seems overkill.

Cover of the Day: The Lost

The Lost by Sarah Beth Durst

I think this cover is absolutely radiant! I've always loved watercolor paintings so that's probably why I like this one so much. The bold clean-cut type contrasts beautifully with the "messy" paint quality of the background. PLUS the colors are gorgeous and oh so eye catching!

Cover of the Day: Find Me

Find Me by Romily Bernard

First can we just talk about how awesomely creepy that tagline is?!?
I absolutely adore this cover. The fusion of typography and image is brilliant!
We get just a hint of the girls face and the illusion that she's disappearing. I also really like how they handled the title, making it white but not putting the two words right next to each other.

Cover of the Day: Inheritance

Inheritance by Malinda Lo

I find this cover very interesting to look at. I can't really describe why I like it, I just do!  LOVE the vibrant blue, and the glass wall with her reflection in it, so cool.

Cover of the Day: This Song Will Save Your Life

This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales

Not only do I like this cover but I really love the title, it's so powerful. Now it could just be that I'm extremely slow, but it wasn't until I had been looking at it for a few minutes that I noticed the pink letters spell out LOVE. All in all I think it's an interesting cover that would grab my attention on store shelves.

Cover of the Day: Freak Boy

Freak Boy by Kristin Elizabeth Clark

I just saw this cover for the first time yesterday and fell in love! I really like the blue color palette they used and how the shape of the body is created from the broken fragments of glass. Another thing I really like is how the title has been treated with two different fonts that really contradict one another, as well as the title itself.

Cover of the Day: Ketchup Clouds

Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher

I like this cover because it's so totally bizarre. If you read the synopsis, which is also really strange, you get the sense that it all fits together somehow.

I really like the hand-drawn red clouds and how the girl is reaching up and holding onto the bird's feet. The only thing I don't really like is all the type. It's not the font necessarily but maybe the color? I think it would have looked better if part of the type was in red to match the clouds.

Cover of the Day: Tumble & Fall

Tumble & Fall by Alexandra Coutts

As soon as I saw this book I was immedietely drawn to it.

Things I love about this cover:
1. The unique perspective, looking down on the couple
2. How the amperstamp is the largest part of the title and works to frame the couples faces.
3. The weird glowing circles that are falling everywhere

Cover of the Day: Time After Time

Time After Time by Tamara Ireland Stone

I may be a little biased with my love of this cover because I'm such a big fan of the series itself but oh well. My favorite thing about this cover is the color and lighting. The bright, warm yellows/oranges make me think of Spring when all the leaves are changing. I like how the guy in the background is out of focus so all our attention goes to the girls face, who is making direct eye contact with us.

Cover of the Day: Unremembered

Unremembered by Jessica Brody

I really like the simplicity of this one, the soft unfocused image, the bold, see through title, and small tag-line at the top.

The tag-line "A mind wiped clean" paired with the unfocused image of a girl's face, makes me think of when you remember someone from your childhood or something but can't quit picture what they looked like. The image is there in your brain somewhere, but you can't pull together all the details. I think it does a great job of conveying the story that's inside.

Cover of the Day: Delaney's Summer Bucket List

Delaney's Summer Bucket List by Richard Denney

This cover is so fun! The girl floating away on the bouquet of balloons makes me think of the Pixar movie UP, which automatically makes me smile =)
I also love the soft pastel color palette.

Cover of the Day: Paper Valentine

Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff

I love how unexpected this cover is. Have you ever seen anything like it?!? I really like how the designer has combined this flat one dimensional cutout of a girl and placed her into a very real three-dimensional space. But the thing that gets me most is all the little cutouts in her dress. They're incredible, hats off to the designer!

Cover of the Day: This Strange and Familiar Place

This Strange and Familiar Place by Rachel Carter

In my opinion the So Close To You series has some of the most gorgeous covers out right now. Consistent with the first cover, this image contains a beautiful cloud-filled sky, this time paired with a city skyline along the water. Another thing I love is how the image washes out into the black border.

Cover of the Day: Love Is All You Need

Love Is All You Need by Deb Caletti

I am totally loving this cover right now! It's very unique and would really stand out on a bookstore shelf.

You don't see many black & white covers in YA and if the whole thing was black & white I think it would be rather boring, but that one pop of red right there in the middle is what makes it work for me. I like the fact that instead of making the word LOVE red, which would be the most predictable thing, the designer instead chose to make the umbrella a color that we associate with the word love in our minds.

Cover of the Day: Never Let You Go

Never Let You Go by Emma Carlson Berne

I got this book for Christmas, and love the intensity of it all. The girls face all up in your face, her eyes boring into yours. It draws you in and really makes you want to read the book. The placement of the type is very odd yet in some masterful way it works.

What do you think?

Cover of the Day: Afterparty

Afterparty by Ann Redisch Stampler

I find this cover to be very pretty yet sad at the same time.

The top half is dark and cool, while the bottom half is bright and warm. The  colors of the blurred city lights are very cheerful but are contradicted by the dark silhouette walking barefoot and alone down the middle of the street. I like how the girls feet and the road in front of her are the only two things in focus. It really draws our attention to what's ahead of her, and where this path will lead.

What do you think?
Is this cover pretty? Sad? Or both?
